The nozzle directs the jet of water and abrasive particles onto the material to be cut. It can be adjusted to control the cutting speed and pressure. High-Pressure Water Pump The heart of a waterjet machine is the high-pressure pump that generates the intense water pressure required for cutting. It pressurizes the water to extremely high levels, typically ranging from 40,000 to 90,000 pounds per square inch (psi). Abrasive Delivery System In a CNC waterjet machine, abrasive particles, such as garnet or aluminum oxide, are mixed with the high-pressure water stream to enhance cutting capabilities. The abrasive delivery system consists of a hopper that stores and feeds the abrasive into the water stream. Cutting Table The cutting table provides a stable and flat surface where the material to be cut is placed. It often includes a water reservoir to catch and recirculate the used water and abrasive mixture. CNC Control System A CNC waterjet machine is controlled by a computer numerical control (CNC) system. The operator programs the cutting specifications and desired shapes into the CNC software, which then guides the machine’s movements to execute the cutting process accurately. Safety Features Waterjet machines incorporate various safety features to protect the operator and ensure safe operation. These may include safety interlocks, guarding, and emergency stop buttons.
