Blue Tansy essential oil, which comes from the annual yellow-flowered Mediterranean plant, is high in chamazulene and sabinene. Essential oils are mostly non-polar terpenes, but some of blue tansy’s constituents (like chamazulene and bisabolol derivatives) have different solubility behaviors. IMPORTANT: The striking blue color in Blue Tansy Oil comes from chamazulene, a compound formed during steam distillation of the plant. Fresh oil usually appears inky blue to dark sapphire. Over time, exposure to light, air (oxygen), and heat can cause oxidation and chemical shifts in chamazulene and other sesquiterpenes. This oxidation often shifts the oil’s color toward blue-green or greenish hues. Storage in clear glass bottles or in warm conditions accelerates this process. A shift from blue → green alone doesn’t necessarily mean the oil has gone “bad”. Suggestion: Refridgerate the product
